Facial aging is a multi-factorial process caused primarily by repeated muscle contraction and the degenerative process of myofibrils. Also of importance is the loss of collagen and elastin, and fat reduction, all of which lead to skin sagging.
Following Botox injection, the physician resumes the procedure with fillers. The target injection areas are: facial hollows, folds and natural facial curves that are lost during the aging process. By filling the cheeks one aims to highlight the cheekbones, while filling of the chin and jaw line may restore a youthful curve to the jaw. Fat reduction happens in the deep nasolabial folds, Marionet’s lines, lips and peri-oral region, eyebrows and lower eyelids and the temporal region. These regions are often filled. Occasionally, filling is also performed to raise the tip of the nose and the nostrils.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. It is of relatively short duration, with the patient able to continue his or her normal activities the following day.
